Greetings to one and all. This is Jack Lookman welcoming you to another in the series:
Jack’s Curated Business Ideas
Today's topic is:
Tackling Sugar-Related Problems
Sugar and its related products cause a lot of havoc. It has been linked to different health problems. You see products with excessive sugar all over the place.
These could be beverages, snacks, cereals, etc. And the problem is that these could be addictive. In some cases, the addiction begins from childhood.
As you enjoy the sugar product, you crave and long for more. This problem often accrues into a lifestyle, and the health complications begin to multiply.
This could result in amputation and over-dependence on medication; it could also lead to disability or death.
And the diet that you have lived-on for a lifetime has to be changed all of a sudden at old age.
I know that you may argue that the victim should be disciplined, and should take responsibility for their habits. But don't forget that their habits actually started at a very tender age—probably as teenagers or children. And once they got hooked to it, it became a part of their lifestyle.
Some of these victims have become helpless. While some companies or organisations benefit from their misfortune.
There may be the need to mention here that though people are supposed to be disciplined or to take responsibility for their actions, some people are born vulnerable, hence the manufacturing companies capitalise on this.
As humans, we’re created with different strengths and weaknesses. It’s quite unfair to unduly ‘punish’ those who are vulnerable.
I guess that some countries deal with this problem in different ways.
- Some increase the tax on sugar-related-products.
- Some invest in healthcare facilities to deal with the problem.
- Some amputate the helpless victims to prevent the speed of the infection
- In most cases, of the harm done, is irreversible.
- This therefore impacts the quality of life and increases health care budget
- Increases profits for pharmaceutical companies, and the producers of sugar related products.
- It causes pain and misery for the victims and their loved ones.
Growing up as a kid, I learned that prevention is better than cure. Hence, I wish it could be applied in this endemic problem.
Rather than spending resources in managing the resulting illness, could effort be channeled at preventing them?
Could herbal or other remedies be researched? Something to minimise or stop the craving for sugar? Could these remedies be introduced with food and drinks diet for children and adults? Could the problem be managed for the present or for the future?
- Could medicines and ingredients be made and added to food?
- Could drinks or beverage be made for this purpose?
- Could these be affordable or subsidised by the government?
- Could this be cheaper than the cost of treating the resulting diseases that the sugary products present?
- Could it lessen the pain and griefs that family, society and loved ones endure?
- Could it make society more productive and happy?
- Could this be a business opportunity being presented?
- Could this idea stimulate even better thoughts?
- Are there herbal remedies that could do the job effectively?
- Could business processes be leveraged?
- Could effective marketing be done?
- Could there be a more ethical way of marketing?
- Are there aleady products in the marketplace?
- Are these affordable? Could they be leveraged?
- Is there a need for a re-think?
- Having said enough, do you get my point?
Please, give it some thought. Change the narrative or status quo.
This presentation is dedicated to all amputees; to those who lost their lives prematurely; to the loved ones who endure the pains and emotions; and to those who could make worse better.
Did you get any value from this presentation?
Could you make a difference? Could you monetise this idea?
