App For Interstate Travel In Nigeria
Even though the inspiration for the idea is from an experience in Nigeria, it could readily be applied to different geographical locations.
One of my mentees who recently commenced his national service went about booking his trip to this to his place of primary assignment. In order to do this he needed to physically go to the car park and reserve a seat for the next day or two.
He told me that this is the normal practice.
In my mind I saw an entrepreneurial opportunity, one which could benefit The Traveler, the service provider and the transport sector.
Let's imagine a scenario. He needing to get to his destination in a couple of days. He spends time, resources and effort going to the car park. This could be in the scorching sun or in the rain. On getting to the car park he may need to wait for a day or two for his journey to commence. The driver may charge inflated or unaccounted fees. His travel movements may be untracked. If there is an emergency, the traveler may be unprotected; etc.
What if some automated systems become introduced? In addition to those who may physically book their journey, there may be those who would love to book online. This option saves time, effort and resources. This may be more efficient. There may be less need for cash transactions. payment could be done online. There might even be a user friendly app to make the process easy. If the individual travel operators find this proposal out of pocket. He could collaborate with similar others.
Administration systems would need to be in place as well as anti-fraud systems. The journey could be tracked, in case of emergencies or other eventualities. Backup processes could be in place to tackle any problems. The automated processes could add value to the service provider and to the service user.
Just like everything in life, it may have its threats and weaknesses. There could be fraud. There could be resistance to change. There could be technical problems. There could be trust issues, etc.
Remember, that knowing the problem is probably part of the solution. Once you know and articulate the potential and real problems, you could begin to find solutions to them, and update these as necessary.
You shall document the problems and solutions, to allow for a smooth flow of processes as well as for ease of reference. In order to achieve this idea, business and project processes need to be in place. Relevant professionals need to be leveraged. For example app developers, web developers, operational staff, researchers of best practice, etc, need to be on the round table. The cost of traveling may need to be reviewed. The benefits also need to be explored. The potential return on investment needs to be calculated and articulated. The cost benefit analysis needs to be done. The Competitive Edge needs to be highlighted, and the benefits to the service provider as well.
If it's agreed to be a worthwhile project or venture then it should be executed. If the cost is beyond individual budgets of service providers, they could collaborate or find investors. A profit sharing formula may then be agreed upon.
This is the summary of the business idea. You might want to modify and perfect it as necessary.
